My name is Brad Duncan & I had the pleasure of meeting Leslie through a mutual friend, who recommended her to me last fall.
Having not seen our friend in a number of years, he asked if I was still smoking, to which I said; yes, sadly I still smoked like an Ice Road Trucker (or IRT, as I coined my abbreviation for it). Not only for myself but also my wife, as we both had smoked since our teenage years. Never really being able to fully quit.
Our friend informed me he had met Leslie some 15 years before and with her help, he was able to quit smoking. All this coming from a two pack a day smoker…!!
Moreover, he went on to tell us that not only was he able to quit, but he was able to get some 15 friends & acquaintances through the years to also quit, with only just two of them who went back to smoking again…!! I found all this simply amazing and needed to speak with this lady.
Leslie lives in Raleigh, NC and this posed a bit of a challenge for myself and us, since we live in Louisville, KY. But I didn’t care, knowing I needed to face reality and quit. Thinking if I could quit, so would my wife.
I called and spoke to Leslie a couple of times and I left with the feeling that the more I talked with her, the more I liked her and felt comfortable with entrusting her and finally being able to quit. As she is an excellent and patient listener…!! A trait lost on by many any more, but not Leslie. Given this just might be the biggest secret she has in treating her patients.
So from there, Leslie gave me instructions to quit smoking before we had our appointment.
With that, after smoking that last cigarette, I tore up my the remaining cigarettes I had left in my pack. Some six of these remaining. Something I could never do in the past. As a result though, this left me feeling full optimism in going to bed, ready to go full bore into my new life.
Then, I went into her office, revved up to see how and if this could work… After speaking with her and getting to know each other further, she was ready to give me my first treatment.
I could immediately tell after my treatment was complete, that this person who used to smoke, is now no more. However, to stay on point, Leslie came back and gave me two more treatments to make sure they all took.
She was stern and quick to remind me of the many “triggers” I’ll need to be aware of. Whether it was having a beer or a cocktail, or my favorite meal, or even an event I’ve done in the past that has always been associated with smoking. To always keep my guard up, particularly on these anniversaries. Whether it was my first month anniversary, third month or more.
I am proud to sit here today, having just passed over my two year anniversary. However, this does not mean I’m cleared, much like an alcoholic coming out of treatment from AA, they are always considered an alcoholic for life. I am and will continue to treat my plight as a smoker for life. Believing more than than ever that this reminder will always keep me and my thoughts grounded.
Knowing I always have an ace up my sleeve with my friend for life; Leslie. Do yourself and those around the favor of calling and meeting with her. You will not regret it!!
Good luck…!!
Best wishes,
Brad Duncan
Louisville, KY
