I started going to the Stop Clinic for smoking cessation in May 2007. Many times previously, I had spoken to Leslie Lyon about my desire to quit smoking. She told me on several occasions that when I was ready she would be there for me.
I was 51 at the time and had smoked since I was 15. Growing up, my mom, grandmother, and siblings all smoked. Finally, I took the leap and made the first appointment with Leslie to learn more about the program.
After I reviewed all the materials and videos, I felt I was ready to go forward. There was never any pressure. Leslie stressed how my desire to be a non smoker was so important to my success. So, I completed the treatments and became officially smoke free on 5/29/2007.
Today, I still carry the Stop Clinic brochure in a zip loc bag in my purse. It reminds me on a daily basis of not only my success in being a non smoker for 13 years, but also keeps me in check when I may have a passing thought of picking up a cigarette. For me, that is not an option. I am always one cigarette away from starting all over again.
So grateful for the Stop Clinic. My lungs thank you too!
